Success!! We have now reached our goal in just 4 days! Thanks to everyone who donated and lent support to this cause! Travel arrangements are being made now for several of the family members. It was amazing to watch the donations come pouring in over the last few days, and the words of encouragement sent to the family were truly inspirational.
We will still be accepting donations by PayPal and by check for a little longer, and we anticipate making a contribution in Christopher’s honor to the C.O.P.S. program with the goal to help send other families to the event next year.
We hope that everyone will continue to honor Christopher’s memory by doing the random act of kindness that Emily wrote about on the CaringBridge site. Your donations were an awesome example of this, and please keep on paying it forward! And please make sure to check out the Ripples site for more inspiration (Thanks Paul!).
Please make sure to check back to this site, as we’ll post updates about the memorial after the family returns from D.C.
To Our Law Enforcement Family and Friends
In August 2010, Deputy Christopher Dewey of the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office succumbed to his injuries as a result of being shot by a suspect. Deputy Dewey, along with hundreds of other officers, will be honored this year at the Law Enforcement Memorial during National Police Week. This event will take place May 15 – 21, 2011 in Washington, D.C.
This site was created by a group of Madison, WI Police Officers in order to raise funds to help send Deputy Dewey’s family members to the memorial event, as they would not otherwise be financially able to attend. We learned about the family’s struggles from Deputy Dewey’s sister-in-law, Hannah Bergman, who has recently joined the Madison Police Department in Madison, WI as a patrol officer.
After learning about his family’s situation, we realized what a heartbreak it would be for the family to miss out on this occasion. Christopher made the ultimate sacrifice. Please help us reach our goal to raise enough money to allow his family to travel to Washington D.C. to attend his memorial. We’re asking all of our Law Enforcement family and friends to donate whatever amount you are able to, and any amount is appreciated.
Thank you for your time and for your donation!
